Gorleston CCTV Ltd launched in October 2007 following 12 months of hard work organising the project.
It was the idea of the local community police officer Jason Howell and business crime prevention officer Patrick Bailey from the Norfolk Police. A privately financed limited company has been established completely independent of any other CCTV system in the Great Yarmouth borough. The company is supported by Great Yarmouth Enterprise and other local businesses.
The camera network consists of 8 fully functioning PTZ (Pan, tilt, zoom) cameras, which cover the entire town centre, including Baker Street, Lowestoft Road, Church Lane, Palmer Road, Blackwall Reach, the beach area and Magdalen Way.
Gorleston CCTV provides many benefits for premises on the High street, such as increasing the deterrent of crime (shop theft, criminal damage, violent crime and anti social behaviour) as well as being used to assist in the detection of crime.
